Dimiter Karamitev

Dimiter Karamitevborn in 1976 in Stara Zagora, Trakia, ranks among the grand masters of the Bulgarian shephard’s pipe Kaval, from which he draws a spectrum, far beyond traditional music, of sounds and improvising jazz phrases – since Theodosii Spassov’s experiments on this instrument nothing uncommon in the young Bulgarian scenery. Dimiter learned to play kaval at 12, visited the musical primary school in Kotel and graduated at the music department of the Academy of Art in Plovdiv, where he also met his wife Magdalena. Dimiter Karamitev feels most likely influenced by Matiu Dobrev’s play, Ivo Papassov’s kaval player.
